Oh synapsid!

Bustin' out the watercolors on a couple of synapsids, let's say palaeohatteria (with a too-wimpy tail) on top, and haptodus, except leucistic (basically half-assed albinism). Mostly just feeling out my materials and playing with skin textures, so anatomy is rather off here and there.

What process did you use with your watercolors? Start with the light tans and build up to the darker colors? I really love the little scale highlights!

Beautiful, what a great way to show reflectivity and depth.

Honestly, I can't say I remember how I got this one together. It's been so long since I had a well-defined process that this one feels like I was thrashing about with no plan whatsoever. A lot of time went into the little scales, which was mostly due to me consistently underestimating how much white is needed to actually show up on top of darker colors. I bought some gouache paints to adress this. Gouache = what you put down is what you get.
